Moving a shop

Bring the products of a Shopify, WooCommerce, Jimdo Creator, Wix or Squarespace shop you already run to 10mShop — the code that proves the shop is yours, what you pick, and what the move writes.

Plan Pro

Esta página aún no está traducida. Se muestra en inglés; todo lo que describe funciona igual en tu idioma.

Products → Move a shop (also Move a shop in the shop switcher at the top of the sidebar) copies the products of a shop you run elsewhere into this one: title and price, and if you want them the pictures, variants, descriptions, SKUs, categories and tags. Today it reads Shopify, WooCommerce, Jimdo Creator, Wix and Squarespace shops; other shop systems follow. Every product that comes over costs one credit and arrives as a Draft, so nothing goes online before you have looked at it; the move itself costs 10 credits once, with the logo, the texts, the colours and the pictures of the website.

Before anything is read you prove that the old shop is yours by putting a code on its start page. We never ask for a login or a key of the old shop.

Before you start

  • Your plan is Pro, see Free and Pro.
  • You have enough credits: one per product and 10 for the move. The page shows the sum and your balance before you start, and a move that runs out of credits waits instead of stopping.
  • You can change the start page of the old shop — its theme code, a text in the footer or an announcement bar. That is how you show us it is yours.
  • The old shop is online for everyone. We read what a visitor sees, so a product the old shop hides, a draft or a password-protected shop is not read.

Step 1: Show us the shop is yours

Enter the address and confirm the declaration

Enter the start page of the old shop, for example www.my-shop.com. Tick the declaration: the shop is yours or its owner has authorised you, you hold the rights to the pictures and texts, and you indemnify 10mShop against claims arising from the move — the Terms, sections 9 and 14, say the same. Then press Get code.

Put the code on the start page

The code is one short line, and one way is enough:

  • as a meta tag in the page's head — Copy meta tag. Shopify: Theme → Edit code → theme.liquid; WooCommerce: your theme or a header plugin; Jimdo Creator: Settings → Website → Edit head; Wix: Settings → Custom code; Squarespace: Code injection, header (all three on paid plans);
  • as visible text anywhere on the start page, for example in the footer — Copy code;
  • as text in an announcement bar at the top of the page.

The code is not a secret, and once the check has passed you can remove it again. It is valid for seven days; after that, Get a new code.

Check now

Press Check now. We load the start page — with and without www. — and look for the code. Found, and the page goes on to reading your products by itself. Not found, and the page says why; Troubleshooting has the usual causes. Start over drops the move as long as nothing has been written.

Step 2: Reading your products

The scan runs by itself; you can leave the page and come back later. It shows how many products it has found so far and which shop system it is reading. We read the public product list every Shopify and WooCommerce shop serves, a Jimdo Creator shop's pages and a Wix shop's product pages one after the other, and the data a Squarespace shop's store pages answer with: the same products a visitor sees, with their prices, pictures and variants, and on a Jimdo Creator shop the page a product stands on becomes its category. When the address runs a shop system we cannot read yet, the move stops and says so: Write us a support ticket opens a ticket with the address filled in, where you name the system so we can look at it and build the move for it, and Start over takes you back to the address. After the products, the scan reads the old shop's start page, its about page and its contact page once more, this time for the shop itself: the logo, the favicon, the about text, the description, the email address, the phone number, the social links and — with the start page's stylesheet — the colours and fonts, and the pictures and videos those pages show. The next step offers what it found.

Step 3: Choose what to bring over

  • What to take over: title and price always come over. Pictures, Variants, Description, SKU and Category and tags each have a box; untick what you would rather write yourself.
  • For all products (optional): what the old shop does not say, set once for every product. All products are one of a kind brings each one in with 1 in stock, tracked and without backorder, as the One of a kind box in a product's Inventory tab does (a sold-out one with 0). Tax category (only on a shop that charges VAT) and Package size file every product under that category and size. What you leave as it is comes as before: no stock tracking, general goods, no package size. You can change each product afterwards.
  • Logo and favicon: when the old shop's start page names them, this section shows them with Take over the logo and Take over the favicon. A logo or favicon your shop already has stays as it is unless you also tick Replace the existing logo or Replace the existing favicon.
  • About us and contact: what the old shop's start page, about page and contact page say about the shop, one box each — Company story (the about page's text, sorted by the AI into your company story, mission and values, in your shop's language and in the old shop's own words), Short description (the start page's description), Email and phone and Social links. Each box fills only a field that is still empty in your shop; tick Overwrite texts your shop already has to replace what is there. A part the scan found whose field is empty starts ticked.
  • Colours and fonts: what the old shop's start page and its stylesheet say about its look — the three main colours and the fonts it uses, shown as swatches with the fonts named. Tick Take over into the design and the AI builds a palette in your shop's seven theme colours from them; a font the old shop uses that 10mShop has too is taken over as it is. The box starts ticked unless your design already has colours of its own.
  • Pictures and videos of the website: the banners, photos and clips the old shop's start page, about page and contact page show — on a Jimdo Creator shop also the galleries of all its other pages, up to 150 pictures in all — not the product pictures, which come with the products — each as a tile with a tick, and Tick all and Untick all over the grid. Ticked files go into your design assets, where the designer's Assets button lists them beside your own uploads and offers them in every picture slot, and the AI uses them as your own pictures when you have it design your shop. They replace nothing. A picture smaller than 200 pixels on a side, one the picture filter refuses or one the old shop does not hand over is left out and named in the summary.
  • The notices above the list say what the old shop could not tell us. When it sells in another currency, prices are taken over one to one — check them afterwards. It tells us no stock counts, so products come without stock tracking and sold-out ones with 0, unless you tick All products are one of a kind.
  • The products: every product found is ticked. Search by title, untick what stays behind, or use Tick all and Untick all — with a search running, those two act on the search result. A product without a price is listed but skipped, because a product here needs one.
  • The credit line sums it up: ticked products × 1 credit, plus 10 credits once for the move — logo, texts, colours and pictures of the website included, whichever you tick — and what you have. Too few, and the page links to Buy credits.

Then press Start the move.

Step 4: Moving your products

The move runs by itself and counts the products written. You can leave the page: the products list shows a line with the progress while the move runs, and Open the move brings you back.

  • Pause stops it after the current product, Resume goes on where it stopped.
  • The 10 credits for the move are charged once, before anything is written. The products' credits are charged as they are written, in small batches, and only for products actually written. When your credits run out the move waits: buy credits, then Resume.
  • Latest notes lists what needs a look: a product skipped for want of a price, a picture the picture filter refused, a picture that could not be fetched, a SKU changed because your shop already had it, a picture or video of the website that could not be taken over.

When the move is finished

The page sums up how many products were written and how many were skipped, and why. It also says what else was taken over — logo, favicon, texts, colours —, what was kept because your shop already had it, and what could not be taken over and why (a picture that could not be fetched or that the picture filter refused, a text the AI could not sort). The logo and the favicon are then under Settings → General, the texts under Settings → About Us, email and phone under Settings → Address and the links under Settings → Social Links. The colours and fonts are a new, unpublished version of your design: Open the designer takes you to it, and you publish it when you like; a shop without a design yet gets them as the starting point of its first design. The pictures and videos of the website are in your design assets — the summary says how many, and how many could not be taken over — and the AI uses them when you have it design your shop. View products opens your list: every moved product is a Draft — check prices and stock, then switch Published on one by one. Create the shop design now (or Open the designer, when the colours went into a new version of your design) takes you to the designer. On a shop without a design, its first screen lists what the move hands the AI: the colours and fonts, the pictures and videos (the AI is shown up to 40 of them, all of them stay in your design assets) and the logo and texts. You can now remove the code from the old shop's start page.

Removing a move again

Remove this move on the summary takes every product the move wrote out of your shop again, by the same rule as the trash can in your products list:

  • a product nobody ordered is deleted, its pictures with it;
  • a product that appears in orders is archived instead, so the orders keep their history;
  • a product with running subscriptions is kept as a draft, because the subscriptions go on.

The page asks once, then the removal runs by itself, with a progress bar you can leave; the products page shows a line while it runs. Afterwards the page notes the date and what went which way, and Start a new move begins the next one. Earlier moves of your shop are listed under the current one with their counts and, while their products exist, Remove. The credits a move cost are not refunded: the products were written. Logo, colours and texts are never touched — what a move wrote into your settings stays and is changed there. If a rights holder reports moved content, 10mShop can remove the move the same way; you then see the date and the reason on this page.

What is not taken over

Legal texts, orders, customers, reviews, pages, blog posts, discount codes and shipping rules stay in the old shop. Your legal texts come from the AI as before, from your company details under Settings → Legal, and shipping is set up under Shipping and delivery. Stock tracking, package size and tax category you set after the move, as on any product you create yourself.
