Discounts

Discounts in the sidebar has two tabs: Discount codes, which customers type in at the checkout, and Volume discounts, which lower the price on their own once a customer buys enough. The tab you had open last is remembered for the next visit.

The filter bar

Once your shop has any codes, the list carries a filter bar in the same style as the other list pages:

• search by code
• a status filter with checkboxes — active, scheduled, expired, maxed out, inactive: the same state the card's badge shows
• a created-date range
• a reset button

Your chosen filters are remembered for the next visit.

Limits

Maximum Uses (Total) and Max Uses Per Customer hold even when several customers check out with the same code at the same moment. A use counts from the moment the order is placed: an order paid online holds its use for 30 minutes while the customer pays, and frees it again if the payment is cancelled or never made. An order paid by invoice or in cash counts at once. The use count on the code's card counts completed uses, so a checkout still waiting for its payment is not in it yet.

A customer whose code ran out between applying it and ordering is told at the checkout that the code no longer applies. The discount is removed, and the order is only placed once they send it again at the new total.

Codes are never marked as new

On the Overview page, rows that appeared since you last looked are tinted with a small dot. Discount codes are the one thing never marked that way — you wrote them yourself, so there is nothing to notice.

Volume discounts

A volume discount lowers the unit price when a customer buys more of what it covers, for example 10 % off from 3 pieces and 15 % from 6. Customers need no code: the shop applies it on its own.

Create volume discount opens the form:

• a Name that only you see; your customers read "Volume discount"
• one to five Tiers, each a Minimum quantity and a Discount (%). Both have to rise from one tier to the next. The quantity is a whole number from 2 to 9999, the discount above 0 and at most 90 %.
• Applies to: All products, or Chosen categories or products. The categories and single products you choose count together. Subscriptions never get a volume discount.
• the switch that turns it on and off

A shop can have up to 50 volume discounts. There are no start and end dates yet: switch a discount off when it should stop.

How the pieces are counted

Everything one discount covers counts together, variants and different products alike: three red wines and three white wines are six pieces of a wine discount. When several discounts cover the same item, the item takes the best rate any of them reached; they never add up. With "everything from 5 pieces 5 %" and "red wine from 6 pieces 10 %", a cart with 6 red wines and 2 cheeses gives the red wines 10 % and the cheeses 5 %.

What your customers see

• On the product page, the tiers under the price: "Volume discount: 10% off 3 or more, 15% off 6 or more". When other items count along, a sentence says so.
• In the cart, the lower price with the old one crossed out, and under the item a hint such as "Add 1 more to save 15%".
• At the checkout, the same lower prices. Free shipping, a discount code's minimum order value and the code itself count from the lowered amount, and the VAT is worked out on it.
• On the invoice, "Volume discount 10 %" under the item. Your order page notes it under the item as well.

A change reaches the product pages and the cart within a minute; the checkout always uses your discounts as they are.
